Medical Laboratory Professionals Week

Even though this year has brought new and unknown territory, we are still excited and happy to be able to honor these laboratory professionals with Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (Lab Week).

Lab Week is celebrated from April 19–25. This is an annual celebration and seeks to raise awareness about the importance of laboratory professionals in clinical diagnostics, disease prevention, and public health surveillance. Within the laboratory, there are several groups working to provide care and results to patients. These include: pathologists, laboratory technicians/scientists, and laboratory assistants/phlebotomists.

The CDC has provided a few coloring pages, for those of you stuck at home, so you can help us celebrate too.

About Our Laboratory

Your doctor relies on the information given to them by laboratory staff to make competent decisions and diagnoses regarding your personal health. At Three Rivers Health, our laboratory is open to run samples 24/7, as we have a standing Emergency Room, Acute Care, Intensive Care, OB, and Rehabilitation units within the hospital.

Collection of outpatient and routine samples are Monday-Friday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm, but can be run 24-7. All orders, regardless of ordering facility or doctor, are accepted at Three Rivers Health. If a test cannot be run in-house, we are able to facilitate in the collection and processing of specialty and uncommon testing through our affiliated laboratories, which then provide results to our medical staff.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic…

During the COVID outbreak, Three Rivers Health has tested numerous patients and employees. While COVID testing is not performed at onsite, specimens are couriered every day to the state of Michigan and various reference labs for testing.

During this difficult time, communication and appropriate testing have been key for treating all patients. All laboratory staff have been trained on proper specimen collection, specimen processing, stability and shipping of Coronavirus samples in order to ensure accurate and prompt results. Our patient and employee safety remains an important concern and a top priority for us.
