| Hospitalists are medical specialists who spend their entire day managing the care of patients in an inpatient setting. Since many primary care physicians prefer to work in an office-based setting, hospitalists work closely with them to manage the care of their patients who are hospitalized. Hospitalists' exclusive focus on caring for inpatients provides a continuity of care and increased communication for families of hospitalized patients. Through this access, patients and their families get a better understanding of the patient's condition while in the hospital, and also what to expect when the patient returns home. Patients then return to their primary care physician for ongoing care. |
