Calling All Cancer Survivors
Reflexology is topic for March 16
A newly expanded Cancer Support Group will meet on Tuesday, March 16th, at Three Rivers Health. This support group is open to survivors of all types of cancer, from those who are newly diagnosed through those who have survived for many years.

The topic for this month’s meeting is “Reflexology – What is it – and How does it Work?,” presented by Connie Nichols, CCA, CMT. This ancient healing art is practiced on the hands, ears, and feet. Reflexes and nerve endings on the surface of these areas correspond to every body part, gland, and organ of the body. People attending can practice reflexology on their hands with partners, if they so choose.

Connie is a certified clinical aromatherapist (CCA) through ISHA, approved by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy. She has also been trained as a certified massage therapist (CMT) and spa technician through Kalamazoo Center for the Healing Arts. She has continued her education in reflexology and in crainiosacral and myofascial release massage therapies.

“The group offers education,” said Kim Rogers, MSN, RN, who is a 20-plus year breast cancer survivor and experienced support group leader. “This group started with a focus on breast cancer, but we realize people with all forms of cancer face similar challenges and they all can benefit from education,” she continued.

Joan Lewis, RN, BSN, MSN, from the Specialty Clinics, has joined the group as a facilitator. Joan is an Oncology Certified Nurse and certified chemotherapy provider, having specialized in this area for the past 22 years.

The one-hour meeting will be held in the St. Joseph Conference Room at Three Rivers Health, beginning at 6:30 pm. This Cancer Support Group is offered free of charge as a service to the community. For more information, call Kim Rogers at Three Rivers Health at 269.273.9757.
